It's been a long day and just before bed my husband surprises me with a hot bath in candle light. The bathroom is glowing a warm hue of yellow and the steam fills the air. It's the perfect moment to relax and begin to let my body take the weight of the day off. All of the running around, the thoughts about what needed to get done, the emails sent out, the cooking I did, and the heaviest weight (what DIDN'T get done). All of the stresses of life seem to leave the moment the tub welcomes me. And then as I lay enjoying the burden-less atmosphere, in comes Daniel with my favorite tub of ice cream! (If you know me, you know that I LOVE my ice cream!)
Everything is perfect.
And then it happens. Daniel says something which was meant to be loving, but somehow it hurts my feelings. Maybe you've been in this place before. Maybe it wasn't in the bathtub, but you register with that pain in another place. Maybe your feelings got hurt in the kitchen, the car, or the movie theater. For me this is a place where, without realizing it, I turn a wonderful moment with a misunderstanding to a moment where I choose to sulk in the hurt or even anger. Well, I'm choosing this year to try harder to understand my husband and I want to challenge you to learn to understand your spouse as well! I hope to always be learning new tips for a great marriage and apply the tips that I have learned. We all have different struggles, but I hope that the marriage advice that we share on here helps you as well. Be on the lookout for it the first Tuesday of the month from now on!
Let's strive to fight for beautiful marriages together!
January's Marriage Advice:
- Make a list of 5 things like bother you about your spouse.
- After you've finished, look for a good quality in each of them and begin to focus on the good instead of the bad.
Here's my example...
Things That Bother Me The Good In It
Daniel takes longer to get things done. | Daniel is less likely to be stressed out then me.
Daniel is not very organized | I can organize things how I want them to be.
